Epic day, peeps. I'm sure you already know this, but the uber-awesome Elana Johnson HAS A BOOK DEAL!!!!!
Even though she has no idea who I am, I've read almost every article she's written for the Query Tracker website (girl has helped me more than she'll ever know...). Also, I'm a follower on her blog, which makes me just as uber-awesome as she is.
Okay... It doesn't... But whatever...
The point is that Elana's journey can teach every aspiring author sooo much:
Persevere, persevere, persevere!
Set small goals as well as big picture ones.
Learn when to quit on a story, then write a better one.
Read within and outside the genre you write.
Find crit partners who'll help you hone your craft, and return the favor.
And did I mention persevere? :D
On behalf of all us aspiring authors in the universe, congrats, Elana!!!!
She's uber-inspiring to me, too, and I'm just as uber-happy for her. She's definitely earned her success.
ReplyDeleteI really need to work on two points on your list: the reading and the crit partners. I was reading about a book a day, but I just haven't had time the last month or so. I feel like my mind is rusting!
And crit partners, ugh. I have people to read, but they're not really crit partners. They're not writers. I have a crit group, but we only submit about 10 pages each per meeting, and that's just too slow for me, although they've helped me out incredibly with individual scenes. I suppose I'll get there eventually by using points one and six on the list :)
Congratulations to Elana!! Yay!! And a great inspiration too.
ReplyDeleteTake care

Yay for Elana. She rocks. :)
ReplyDeleteI just read this great news on another blog and am grateful you've now pointed me in the direction of her blog / articles. Woot for authors finding success!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Elana. I think her good news is reverberating through the blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm so glad you read/enjoy the articles on the QT blog -- and you are just as cool as me! (I'm not sure that's saying much, but you know.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the congrats, guys!
