Okay, peeps. Time for another Q&C: question and confession. (I know. I'm lame.)
This week's trend question is: Do you like literary mashups?
This week's trend question is: Do you like literary mashups?
Confession: I haven't read any mashup books yet, but I'm dying to. According to what I've read around the blogosphere, some people love them, others don't.
Just like with every other published book.
So tell me: where do you stand? Love 'em or hate 'em?
I've only read P & P & Zombies. It was entertaining, but for me the real merit was that I read the original first, since I'd never read it before. Then, last summer, I liked P & P so much that my wife & I watched every movie version I could find. I really liked Austen's novel. If I hadn't have read that first I don't know that I would have really appreciated the mash-up. I'm looking forward to the film version to see what they do with that.
ReplyDeleteIf you decide to read PP & Zombies and haven't read the original yet, then go back to the source first--it was tough for me to get into (like the first 100 pages were a chore) but once I established the rhythm I was hooked.

Tossing It Out
Hi
ReplyDeleteI've not read any of the above but I have to admit I am so so so so intrigued!!!
I will most likely read the pride and prejudice and zombies because I think that was one of the first mashups I've seen in a bookshop!
And I do like the cover!
Take care

I've been resistant to reading them. I love my classics the way they are. Plus I have so many other books to read first. Let me know what you think of it if you do end up reading the zombies one. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I haven't read any of 'em either. I'm curious, but am kind of put off by the idea.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any mash-ups either; there's so many other books I have on my plate. But I do think a Jane Austen spoof would be funny!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any mash-ups yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm still a bit undecided on where I stand with them. I love the originals too much. lol.
They really don't interest me. Bleh!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any mash ups yet...and I have absolutely no desire too. I like my classics the way they are. Classic.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read them yet, either. I really want to, though. Every time I see them in the bookstore, I chuckle. I think it's like NIGHTLIGHT, the satire of TWILIGHT. Kind of a rowdy, humorous take on something beautiful. To me, that doesn't detract from the beauty of the original piece.
ReplyDeleteI love your Fess-up Fridays!
By the way, your award is ready and waiting over at my blog. You deserve it! Thanks again for all your help!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the blogger award that you gave me, I really appreciated it, and I wrote about it in my latest blog post.
ReplyDeleteCheck it out and write on!
I haven't read any as yet - I'm not sure I want to! I usually love the original stories and don't want that ruined.
ReplyDeleteMaybe one of these days though... :)
I haven't read any yet, but I'm curious.
