At long last, I've chosen a weekly feature for my blog. My last post showed me how much I enjoy reading what others think of the market, be it adult or YA. Because of that, I'm going to post a question regarding trends every Friday. I'd love to hear from you!
So here's my first question for Fess Up Friday:
Are YOU sick of vampires?
My answer? No.
Don't think I ever will be. As long as the premise takes me somewhere I've never been before, and the characters speak to me, I'll still be a fan of the undead. I don't know where it started, maybe Buffy's to blame, but I love my vampires. Sorry, saturated market!
Now it's your turn to fess up!
Here's my confession. I didn't like Wicked Lovely that much. I feel guilty for saying it since everyone seems to think it's the bomb.
ReplyDeleteno, because unlike everyone else on the planet i haven't read any of the twilight series. or watched true blood.
ReplyDeleteNope, not sick of vampires, never will be. I AM a little sick of the mopey vampire who hates his bloodsucking ways and gets all Eeyorey about it. Kinda been done ad nauseam.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sick of vampires either. I agree with you, if the story is interesting then I'll read it.
ReplyDeleteLove the new feature by the way. :)
I'm not sick of vampires. Strangely.
ReplyDeleteI am sick of fallen angels. I think the premise bugged me to begin with because I personally think angels are so much cooler than the way people portray them (angsty teenagers?) - I'd love to read about a vampire guardian angel like (ahem) Angel a la Buffy. He was a character I could fall in love with.
But I want him to be younger. So like a teen-aged guardian vampire who is less angsty and more broody. Has this been written?
Vampires rule!!!!! They're a classic and a staple - Bram Stoker through to Terry Pratchett through to today's current YA vampire trend. And they will continue on featuring in the future in other genres and trends.
ReplyDelete:-)
Fess up Friday is a fab idea!
Take care

I have to admit: I was never fond of vampires in the first place, so no, I'm not sick of it. I've read maybe two vampire novels, so I shouldn't say anything, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of surprised I'm the only one screaming YES!! I also never liked vampires to begin with, but I did read all the Twilight books. I enjoyed them at first, but at this point vampires are like that song you originally loved that gets played 500 times a day until you are so sick of it you want to scream every time it comes on.
ReplyDeleteEver since True Blood, I've liked vampires, but I still can't say I adore them. Vampire books bore me, and I've never liked Twilight.
ReplyDeleteWerewolves and zombies all the way!!!
I'm not sick of vampires but I am definitely sick of Twilight. Not so much people reading Twilight but people trying to convince me I shouldn't hate Twilight. I read all four books because people insisted they were worth it. I still hate them. I've moved on. Vampires may be overused but that just means there are more choices on what sort of vampires we want to read about.
ReplyDeleteI'll never be fed up of vampires! :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the Twilight series are the only vampire books I've read, and I was really surprised that I liked those. (Well, the first two were good; the last two got kind of boring.) I might try another if I knew the writing was good. And if no one imprinted on a baby. :)
ReplyDeleteCool idea for a weekly post! For me, it depends on the story and concept. Right now I looooove the VAMPIRE ACADEMY series. It's the best YA vampire story out there. At least the best one I've read. I lost interest in the House of Night series when it became obvious there was no end to the series. Not my favorite kind.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I'm totally desensitized to vampires at the moment and am sort of sick of the whole thing. But that's because of all the mimicry in the market at the moment. Bring on some inventiveness - but even so, meh. Yep. Sick of them :D
ReplyDeleteI'm with Cassandra. I'm not sick of vampires but I'm sick of Twilight and crazy Twilight fans. I've read them and I don't like them. Deal with it. It's nothing against them personally. I just didn't like them. But I've loved vampires since before Buffy. Christopher Pike solidified it. Buffy took it over the edge.
ReplyDeleteI mostly just love anything supernatural. Hence my insane love for Supernatural and Horror. :)
This is an awesome idea for a weekly feature! I'm not sick of vampires themselves. There is nothing wrong with them. I'm sick of the overly done hating himself vampire who's super emo and falls for the boring girl. (and yeah, I still like Twilight.) I'm just sick of all the copycats and people trying to mimic someone else's success. Like aren't we all unique enough to come up with a new story, or at least a fresh take on an old story.
ReplyDeleteI with the some of the others above me, I'm not sick of vampires, I am sick of freaking Twilight (and Twilight fangirls.)
ReplyDeleteI like scary vampires and the ones that were the definition of horror, you know the ones that killed women for food, had to have a stake driven into their heart in order to die, and made people's blood run cold...not pale-skinned guys that sparkle in the sun and fall in love with teenage girls.
That is my opinion and I stand by it.
Write on!
