So You Want To Redesign Your Blog: Let Writer Caroline Richmond Help!

So. I'm fairly obsessed with blog templates, websites, the whole enchilada. I love staring at The Pretty for hours and hours and hours. When it comes to actually designing stuff, I am made of fail (I did design my current blog header, though, so maybe that's not so much a fail? *blinks*). There are TONS of designers in the blogosphere and beyond that do amazeballs work. But I'm here today to talk about one in particular: YA/MG writer and one of my fave blogging buddies, Caroline Richmond!

Caroline was the one who led me down the designing rabbit hole, folks. Not only did she create my blog header for Reel YA, she also gave me pointers on how to make my own headers. AND GUESS WHAT? Now she's offering a few of her blog designs FOR FREE. Yep. You read that right. For free. You can check out her designs here.

So what are you waiting for? Go stalk Caroline and her awesomeness! :)

Now tell me: do you like designing your own blog/website? If not, would you like to learn how?

  1. I usually start with a template and then do some hacking/tweaking. I designed the entire look of my Pens for Paws Auction site last year but wasn't in love with it anymore and found a template instead. But I'll be needing to make a decision this year with my domain name (it's currently being used for my photo site, but Smugmug is raising their prices) and will likely need to combine my blog and website presence. That opens up all kinds of creative decisions! Yay? Yay!

    1. Definitely YAY! I love how invested you are in the site's look! Tweaking is something I wish I was better at. I can't wait to see your new looks in the future!

  2. AMPARO!

Awww, thank you so very much for this kind blog post! You are far, far too kind, and I am lucky to have you as a friend! :)

Also, your header looks AMAZING! I love it!

  3. I checked them out -- so pretty! Amparo, you won't believe this but I was just admiring your header a couple of days ago, wondering how you did it. I just changed my header and am not 100% happy with it. Design decisions are tough, especially in a medium one isn't used to. Thanks for the link to Caroline's blog! I'm following her lovely blog now.

    1. I blame Caroline for all my header changes! She recommended a wonderful (and free) photo editor called Pixlr. She also got me hooked on DaFont.com, and that's where I get the fonts for the header's text. What I do is I download the font to my computer, then open Pixlr so I can write using the font I downloaded. If you'd like, email either me or Caroline for more deets!!
